Dealing With A Smoking Air Compressor

by Joann Freeman

When an air compressor begins to smoke a lot, it is the kind of problem that should be inspected in a timely manner. The smoke means that there is something wrong with one of the internal parts of the compressor that is causing it to overheat. If you don't want your warehouse to catch on fire due to using a problematic air compressor, don't allow your employees to use it until a repair is made. Take a look at this article to discover what might be causing your air compressor to smoke all the time.

The Internal Parts Are Dusty

It is possible that your air compressor has begun to smoke because there is a lot of dust on the inside of it. Even if the compressor isn't that old, it is possible that dust accumulated on some of the most important parts. In such a case, you can hire a contractor to take the compressor apart and thoroughly clean everything off. If you warehouse is always dusty, you should invest in keeping it clean to decrease the amount of dust that the compressor is exposed to. For instance, simply hire someone to sweep the floors throughout each day.

You Need Better Air Circulation in the Building

One of the reasons for air compressor to overheat is from a building being too hot inside. You must understand that the compressor requires a nice amount of air in order to stay cool, especially if it is used a lot. Getting a high quality air conditioning system installed in your warehouse is one of the things that can be done to keep the compressor cool. You can also purchase a powerful fan that can be used in the area of the warehouse that the air compressor is usually operated in. Keeping windows open to allow exterior air into the building is a good idea as well.

The Air Compressor is Defective

Your air compressor might be smoking because it has defective parts. A contractor, such as Compressor-Pump & Service, Inc., can examine each part to find out if they are problematic or not. Contact the manufacturer of the compressor to ask if there are any recalls for the model that you have. You might be able to get the compressor repaired or replaced without being charged if there is a recall in place.  Inform your employees that the compressor is out of order until it is able to be safely used.
