Why You Should Add Shut-Off Valves To Your Coupler Halves

by Joann Freeman

If you use a lot of couplers in your industrial setting, you probably know how handy they are. Having coupler halves on different hoses make it easy for you to switch back and forth when using different types of equipment and hoses, and it allows you to get jobs done a lot more quickly. One thing that you might not have done, however, is to install shut-off valves on all of your coupler halves. These are a few reasons why this is a good idea.

Leave Coupler Halves On

For one thing, right now, you might have to remove the coupler halves off of the ends of your hoses when you aren't using them. If you add shut-off valves, however, you can generally bypass this step. This can help you make the use of your couplers even more convenient and can help you speed things up even more.

Prevent Leakage

Perhaps the main benefit of having shut-off valves on your coupler halves is the fact that they can prevent leaks. If you don't have shut-off valves on your coupler halves, then you have to worry about fluid or air leakage when you disconnect hoses from one another or from equipment. Even if you work quickly, this can result in product loss or can leave a big mess that has to be cleaned up. Once shut-off valves have been installed, you will not have to worry about this problem. This is because the leaks will stop as soon as you disconnect the coupler halves from one another. This is a great way to put a stop to leaks.

Prevent Contamination

Not only can shut-off valves help prevent air and fluid leakage from your hoses when they are disconnected, but it can prevent the reverse problem as well. Without shut-off valves, you have to worry about dirt, dust, grease, or other debris getting into your hoses. This can cause clogs in your hoses, contamination of fluids and a variety of other problems, depending on what the hoses are being used for. With a shut-off valve, however, you can prevent debris from getting inside of the hose. Instead, you can simply wipe off the coupler half before reconnecting the hoses so that you can get rid of any dust or other debris that might have ended up on it.

As you can see, there are a few reasons why it's a good idea to add shut-off valves to your coupler halves. Luckily, these are affordable and are generally easy to put on, so you should find that they are more than worth it. For more information, contact a company like Kims International.
